Welcome to Fajar Secondary Mathematics Department webpage. Our rich academic program challenges EVERY student to set and reach ambitious, intellectual and personal goals. We inspire our students to enjoy the learning of Mathematics through experiential learning and the application of Mathematics principles in a real-world context. All our students are involved in Mathematics Learning Journeys. The department provides platforms for interested students to gain wider exposure and learning of the subject by sending them for competitions. The department organizes the Mathematics Rumble, a fun learning Mathematics competition, for all W6 and W8 schools annually since 2014.
In the classroom, our teachers use different pedagogical approaches and ICT tools to engage students and to help them link the learning to the real-world. All Sec 1-3 students are involved in Mathematics modelling projects.
My dedicated team of teachers strongly believe that family involvement and support is significant to a child's development in this subject. We seek to improve communication and collaboration with parents and families. Please feel free to give us your feedback that would help us continuously improve to make learning meaningful and successful for our students.
Intervention Framework to Improve Confidence and Achievement in Numeracy (ICAN) is a project to support low progress learners in Mathematics and raise their confidence as well as improve Mathematics achievement of Normal Technical and weaker Normal Academic students. Through the training from the MOE Curriculum Planning and Development Division (CPDD), teachers' capacities are built to help low progress learners through effective and sustainable intervention to improve their results.

2. Mathematics Trails
The Mathematics Trails are Learning Journeys to provide opportunities for students to associate what they learn in the classroom to the outside world. The graduating classes went to the Sports Hub this year. The students had to solve different real-life problems using their observations and the mathematical knowledge that they had learnt. For example, one team was tasked to estimate the height of the foyer at the Sports hub while another team was tasked to budget the cost of repainting one section of the stairway entrance of the Sports Hub. The Sec 1-3 classes also went to VivoCity, Changi Airport and the Esplanade for their Learning Journeys.

3. Subject Based Banding (SBB)
The school believes in stretching the potential of our students. Several Sec 1NA and 1NT students that have shown good proficiency in Mathematics were offered SBB. Through the SBB programme, the students are able to read the subject at a higher academic stream. With close coaching and monitoring, the students have performed well in the subject at the higher academic stream.
