Direct School Admission


Dear P6 students,

We invite you to apply for Direct School Admission (DSA) to Sec 1 (2022). DSA allows students to seek admission to secondary school based on a diverse range of interests and talents.

On 7 Apr, it was announced that Fajar Secondary School will be merging with Greenridge Secondary School in 2023. With the merger, we are able to offer a wide range of educational programmes to cater to our students’ strengths and interests. For our 2022 Sec 1s, we offer the following talent areas:

Successful applicants will enjoy a range of developmental opportunities to nurture their interests and develop their skills in the talent area offered to them. Your child / ward can look forward to opportunities to:

        • participate in enrichment programmes / activities
        • showcase his / her skills and knowledge at school and community level
        • represent the school in national-level competitions
        • receive mentorship
        • initiate and lead in projects (including VIA projects) related to the talent area
        • receive guidance on potential higher education and career options in the talent area

Leadership and Character

 

Applicants should:

·     have assumed leadership position(s) such as Prefects, Student Councillors, CCA Leaders, Class Committee members in their primary school years; or

·     have actively served/led in community project(s); or 

·     attain a Conduct Grade of ‘Very Good’ or better in Primary 5 (overall) and Primary 6 (mid-year).

Shortlisted applicants:

·      will be invited for an e-interview via video conferencing in July 2021

·      share their relevant achievements and experiences on leadership and/or community projects

Debating and Public Speaking

 

Applicants should:

·       demonstrate competency in the English Language, interest and motivation in public speaking, as well as positive personal dispositions and learning attitudes. 

Shortlisted applicants:

·      will be invited for an e-interview via video conferencing in July 2021

·      share their relevant achievements and experiences

·      sit for a performance task: plan and deliver a speech on a topic that will be given to the applicant during the session

Mother Tongue Languages
(Chinese Language / Malay Language / Tamil Language)

Applicants should:

·    demonstrate competency, interest and motivation in Chinese Language / Malay Language / Tamil Language, as well as positive personal dispositions and learning attitudes.

Shortlisted applicants:

·      will be invited for an e-interview via video conferencing in July 2021

·      share their relevant achievements and experiences

·      sit for a performance task: read an article given; plan and deliver a speech on a topic that will be given to the applicant during the session

Visual Arts

Applicants should:

·    demonstrate artistic potential, interest and motivation in the art form, as well as positive personal dispositions and learning attitudes.

Shortlisted applicants:

·      will be invited for an e-interview via video conferencing in July 2021

·      share their relevant achievements and experiences

·      sit for a time-based exercise: create an artwork on a theme that will be given to the applicant during the session

Please note that meeting all the criteria does not guarantee the student will be shortlisted/given an offer.


Application Process

Application for DSA-Sec can be submitted through the online DSA-Sec Portal. The application is free-of-charge and will be open from 5 May 2021, 11am to 1 June 2021, 3pm. For more details, please refer to MOE website – www.moe.gov.sg/dsa-sec. Each applicant can apply up to a maximum of 2 talent areas for the same school.

 

Parents and students are encouraged to choose schools wisely based on the student’s aptitudes and strengths, bearing in mind the schools’ academic and non-academic requirements, and the programmes available to develop the area of talent.

 

Students who are successfully admitted to the school via DSA are expected to honour their commitment to the school, and participate in the activities related to the talent they are selected for from year 1-4.

Applicants to submit their preferred choice of school online via the DSA-Sec Portal or via the applicant’s primary school.

 

Late Nov

Applicants will receive DSA-Sec allocation results with the PSLE results.
